McLean, VA – E3 is proud to officially announce the creation of an E3 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Initiative aimed at raising awareness and support to encourage our younger generations to pursue an education and career in one of the many STEM fields. This launch was marked by E3’s first STEM event on April 27, 2017, which corresponded around the national Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
The children of E3 staff participated in a STEM-focused activity where common household items were combined to create Do-It-Yourself lava lamps. The kids, ranging from ages five to nine, were given a brief introduction to STEM and then asked to predict what would happen given the items of the experiment. The kids really enjoyed the hands-on portion of the activity, and were eager to learn about other STEM experiments they could do at home. The E3 STEM Initiative aligns to one of our core values – community. E3 prides itself on being a valued member of our community while identifying ways to give back to our community. The goal of the STEM Initiative is to work with our local community to provide avenues for children to pursue these fields and raise awareness on any barriers they may face along the way. To that end, our initial focus will be on women and girls in STEM while providing tools and resources to tackle any adversity they may face along the way.
